Common Questions

Getting Started

TaxMatch compares the gross amount reported on your 1099-K against your actual sales data, then automatically identifies and categorizes adjustments such as refunds, chargebacks, processing fees, and collected sales tax. The result is a clear breakdown showing exactly why your 1099-K gross differs from your true taxable income.
From your dashboard, navigate to Settings and select "Payment Processors." TaxMatch supports Shopify Payments, PayPal, and Stripe. For each processor, you can either authorize a direct connection or upload your transaction data via CSV. Once connected, TaxMatch automatically imports and categorizes your transactions.

Reconciliation

Payment processors report gross transaction volume on the 1099-K, which includes amounts that are not actual income. Common reasons for discrepancies include refunds and returns issued to customers, chargebacks, payment processing fees deducted before payout, and sales tax collected on behalf of states. TaxMatch identifies and quantifies each of these adjustments so you can report accurate figures.
TaxMatch includes a discrepancy detection feature that flags and explains remaining differences between your 1099-K and your calculated gross. Each discrepancy is assigned a severity rating and an explanation. If you need further assistance, our support team can help you investigate specific discrepancies.
Yes. TaxMatch supports both PDF and CSV exports. The PDF export generates an IRS-ready reconciliation worksheet that you can provide to your CPA or attach to your tax filing. The CSV export includes detailed line-item data suitable for import into accounting software or further analysis.

Billing

No. TaxMatch is a reconciliation tool designed to complement professional tax advice, not replace it. The worksheets and reports generated by TaxMatch give your CPA the detailed data they need to file accurately, saving both you and your accountant significant time.
